At Notting Hill Neighbourhood House, we offer a wide range of fun classes and programs for the whole community to enjoy! 

 

We encourage lifelong learning at any age. At any stage of your life, you have the ability to learn something new, pick up a new hobby or new skill! Our class terms follow the Victorian School Term Dates.

CALLIGRAPHY

For all ages and skill levels.

Wednesday 10 am – 12 pm | $15 – 2 hour session

Our Calligraphy class teaches students the fundamentals of calligraphy and gives them a chance to practice different styles in every session. The weekly 2-hour class is designed to teach new styles and improve practical calligraphy skills in a supportive learning environment. Students are able to use their skills in everyday life.

Please note there is an additional charge of $40 for new students for their first calligraphy kit.

Meet: Jan Cahill

Jan has been teaching calligraphy for many years, and her own personal practice has extended beyond this. Jan has developed her own personal style and imparts passion and dedication to all her students.

KIDS CATCH-UP

For kids aged 8-13 years old

Monday 4 pm – 5:30 pm | FREE

We welcome all neighbourhood kids aged 8-13 years old to come on down to the neighbourhood house! We will provide yummy snacks and drinks, craft supplies, fun projects, active discussion, adult supervision and of course great company!

If you have a skill (painting, crafts, woodworking etc.) and/or knowledge (environmental, historical) to teach and share with the kids of our neighbourhood, please get in touch with us!

The NHNH Kids Catch-ups is run by the staff at Notting Hill Neighbourhood House with amazing support from our community volunteers. All staff and volunteers at NHNH hold a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC).

STITCH AND SEW

For all ages and skill levels.

Wednesday 7 pm – 9 pm | $10 – 2 hour session

Stitch and Sew class at Notting Hill Neighbourhood House is designed to accommodate all levels – from beginners to intermediate or advanced students. If you are looking to learn a new skill, get back to an old hobby or receive some encouragement to continue with an ongoing project, join us! All materials are available at NHNH. You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine and materials if you wish to.

Meet: Joanne Devlin

Joanne is patient and incredibly knowledgeable about all things sewing. Through considerate instruction she passes on her sewing knowledge and experience to all her students, helping them to create beautiful sewn crafted objects and clothing.

KIDS CODING

For kids 10+ years old.

THIS CLASS IS NOT CURRENTLY RUNNING FOR T1, 2023.

Thursday 5 – 6 pm | $10 – 1 hour session

Software is in our cars, in our digital watches, even in our washing machines; almost everywhere you look these days. Kids Coding hopes to encourage the next generation of programmers to understand the challenges and rewards of coding. Coding develops logical thinking, patience, tenacity and teamwork. An interactive class for kids to learn basic software programming language on the programs “Scratch” and “Code Studio”. Learn to build classic video games, basic animation and cartoons. This fun and engaging class is recommended for children 10+ years. Join our weekly sessions and level up your child’s skills.

Richard has been developing software professionally for his working life and when not coding can usually be found riding his bike. 

ZUMBA

For ages 16+ years old and all skill levels.

Saturday 9 – 10 am | $12 – 1 hour session

Join the Zumba Class every Saturday morning for an hour of Zumba® – A dance fitness party, suitable for anyone 16 years and over and the best part is you don’t need any prior dance experience! Zumba incorporates a fusion of Latin and International-inspired rhythms, such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Reggaetón, Bhangra/Bollywood, Belly Dance and Hip Hop. It is exercise in disguise and heaps of fun!

Meet: Lalindra & Duane

Lalindra and Duane have been teaching Zumba® for 10+ years including certifications in Zumba Toning, Zumba Sentao, Strong Nation and Cert 3 in Fitness. They enjoy helping people reap the benefits of Zumba from improved fitness, coordination and balance, to happiness, joy and mental well-being by incorporating this fun physical activity into their regular routine.

TECH 101

For older adults.

Thursday 11 am – 2 pm | $10 – 1 hour session

Tech 101 at Notting Hill Neighbourhood House is a one-on-one tailored hourly session with community volunteers. Build your online skills and learn at your own pace on everything from accessing the internet, making video calls, scanning QR codes, online shopping and any other technological skills you wish to learn.

BABY SENSORY

For babies 0-13 months old.

THIS CLASS IS NOT CURRENTLY RUNNING FOR T1, 2023.

Tuesday 9 am – 1 pm | $22 – 40 minutes session 

Fun multi award-winning sensory development classes for babies from birth to 13 months. These sessions include baby massage, baby sign language, magical light shows, baby exercise and so much more.  Learn about your baby’s development and how to extend their learning through easy to replicate ideas for home. Wow moments are our speciality!

Meet: Megan Ryan

Megan has worked with babies and children since 1990 and taught developmental classes for babies, toddlers and preschoolers since 2014.  Megan is passionate about child development, play-based learning and about the high-quality Baby Sensory program. Megan is a mum to 3 children and 5 fur babies.

U3A GUITAR

For older adults.

Wednesday – Beginners class  |  Monday – Intermediate class

Students will learn the basics of playing finger-style classical guitar and a few well-known tunes in the first year. Basic left and right-hand technique will also be taught, alongside how to read Guitar Tablature.

Meet: The U3A Group

The U3A group is a unique and exciting organisation that provides, through its U3As, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for their own reward: the sheer joy of discovery!

YOGA

For all ages and skill levels.

Tuesday 5 pm – 6pm | $10 – 1 hour session

Yoga at Notting Hill Neighbourhood House is suitable for all levels – first-timers to advance. Come along, let Rashmi’s calm presence and joyful enthusiasm instil and/or renew your mind, body and spirit. The covers Asan, Pranayam, Mantra chanting, Meditation & Yoga Nidra streams of traditional yoga – bringing complete coverage of the benefits of Yoga.

Meet: Rashmi

Rashmi has been practising Yoga for the last 15 years. She obtained a formal qualification to be a “Yoga Teacher” from The Yoga & Meditation School of India by completing. The 200hr Yoga Teacher Training Course. She has additionally completed training in Inner Engineering and Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya Meditation. Rashmi has been teaching yoga since 2017. She has taught Yoga at Amaroo Neighbourhood House and also runs online classes. Alongside her teachings in Yoga, Rashmi is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Yoga Therapy from SVYASA.

YOGA AND PILATES

For all ages and skill levels.

Monday & Thursday 10 am – 11 am | $15 – 1 hour session

Yoga in combination with Pilates is a workout that will increase your awareness of your body’s alignment and movement patterns, as well as give you a full-body workout. Unlike building a body that is simply muscular such as in other workout regimens, the use of both Yoga and Pilates at the same time is conducive to the development of a body that is strong, as well as lean, graceful, and efficient.

Meet: Anne Hasson

With over 20+ years of experience as a Yoga and Pilates teacher, Anne has created a steady following of students who regularly come to her classes to get active with Yoga and Pilates.

PLAYGROUP

For kids under 5 years old.

WEDNESDAYS | 1st and 3rd Wednesdays only | 10 am – 12 pm | FREE

FRIDAY | Weekly | 11 am – 12 pm | FREE

Inviting all mums, dads, grandparents and carers to join us for our playgroups for families and children. Playgroup at Notting Hill Neighbourhood House involves read-out-loud sessions, unstructured playtime, access to toys, colouring and painting materials.

Please Note:

  1. Wednesday Playgroups are held every alternate week (1st and 3rd Wednesday)
  2. Friday Playgroups are unstructured – you are welcome to come and enjoy our facilities and the new Westerfield Drive playground next door to us.
