18th April 2021
Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate our first Sinhala and Tamil New Year at Notting Hill Neighbourhood House on Sunday the 18th of April. Sinhala and Tamil New Year is a Sri Lankan holiday that celebrates the traditional New Year of the Sinhalese people in Sri Lanka.
The event began with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, followed by a short video documentary (explaining the cultural holiday) and a captivating Sri-Lankan dance.
Before everyone feasted on the delicious home-cooked Sri-Lankan food, we hosted a series of fun games including Kana Mutti Bindeema (Breaking Pots), Banis Kaema (Donut Eating Contest), Spoon and Lime race and Tug of War!
A big thank you to local neighbours Ramona, Layani, Menik, Pasi, Vidu and Natasha for coming together for many weeks to organise this wonderful event. Well done team!
