Notting Hill Community Laneways

Welcome to the Notting Hill Community Laneways!

Inspired by the Carnegie Community Laneways, local neighbour Jenny envisioned transforming this pedestrian pathway into a vibrant outdoor community art gallery. Together with the incredible team at Notting Hill Neighbourhood House (NHNH) and dedicated community volunteers, the laneway now proudly features over 600 artworks created by more than 500 talented individuals from our neighbourhood and across Melbourne.

This community project aimed to bring colour, creativity, and connection to the heart of Notting Hill. We wanted to offer locals the opportunity to showcase their talents and bring a smile to those passing by. We invite you to pause, look around, and enjoy this beautiful community space.

From February 2023 to December 2024, artists of all ages and skill levels were invited to contribute to the laneway. NHNH distributed hundreds of artboards and brought the community together through a series of ‘Art in the Park’ community painting sessions, and collaborative artworks created at various community events. The laneway officially launched on May 10th, 2023, with the installation of its first artworks. On January 18th, 2025, we marked the completion of the project with a Community Laneway Celebration.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the volunteers and the NHNH team who made this project possible. Over 50 volunteers contributed their time and energy across various stages – from painting and repairing fences, preparing artboards, varnishing completed artworks, to installing the hundreds of pieces. Their efforts behind-the-scenes were instrumental in bringing this vision to life.

This initiative was 100% volunteer-run, with the material funding thanks to the Monash Council Community Grants Program, Bunnings Notting Hill and Pinewood Community Bank – Bendigo Bank.

PLEASE NOTE: We are no longer accepting artwork to install at the laneway.
